Hyundai and Matrix put AI vision on the forklift

A new partnership builds collision-avoidance AI into lift trucks, targeting the blind-spot incidents that plague busy warehouse aisles.

Hyundai Material Handling and Matrix Design Group have announced a technology partnership aimed at reducing forklift collisions in busy warehouse environments.

Vision built into the truck

The collaboration integrates Matrix's OmniPro Vision AI into Hyundai lift trucks, under the name HiVision powered by OmniPro. The system uses edge-based detection to identify pedestrians, vehicles and objects around the truck.

It is designed to tackle the safety risks created by blind spots, congested aisles and the limited reaction times operators have when something moves into their path.

Beyond collision avoidance

Matrix chief executive Mark Watson said the value of the technology extends past avoiding collisions, helping customers build a foundation for safer operations, better visibility and more productive facilities.

The partners highlighted the work to mark National Forklift Safety Day and demonstrated the system using a Hyundai lift truck configuration at a major industry expo.

What this means for commercial teams

  • Safety and automation technology is reshaping what good looks like in commercial and technical roles across material handling.
  • Vendors investing in connected fleets increasingly need salespeople who can sell outcomes, not just hardware.
