Why I founded Evara after 11 years at Toyota Material Handling

After eleven years inside Toyota Material Handling, Rachel Lunn explains why she left to build the kind of specialist talent partner she always wished the industry had.

Eleven years inside Toyota Material Handling gave me a deep appreciation for what makes this industry so special. It is built on long-term relationships, on trust, and above all on people.

An industry built on people

Behind every successful business are individuals who understand their customers, take pride in their work, and recognise that reputation is earned over decades rather than quarters. It is an industry that rewards genuine expertise and quietly punishes shortcuts.

During my time at Toyota I had the privilege of seeing world-class standards up close. I worked alongside outstanding people, and I learned first hand how much culture, leadership and having the right individuals in the right roles really matter.

The challenge I kept seeing

For all the innovation transforming our sector, from warehouse automation and robotics to ever more sophisticated intralogistics, one constraint on growth came up again and again. Attracting and retaining exceptional people remained harder than almost anything else.

Too often, the way firms hired did not reflect the complexity or the importance of the industry itself. Many were served by generalists. Relationships were transactional. Candidates were reduced to a CV. And little thought was given to the nuances that set one business apart from another, even though every company has its own culture, its own ambitions and its own way of serving customers.

Not another recruitment business

The more I saw, the more convinced I became that our industry deserved something different. Not another recruitment business, but a specialist talent partner. One built exclusively around the needs of material handling, intralogistics and automation. One founded by someone who had lived inside the industry, understood its challenges, and appreciated the difference that great people make.

That conviction is what led to Evara.

What Evara is for

Evara was not founded with ambitions of becoming the biggest recruitment company. It was founded with a far simpler objective. To become the most trusted talent partner in the sectors we serve.

That means giving clients genuine market insight, building relationships that last, and competing on quality rather than volume. It means helping ambitious businesses build teams capable of shaping the future of material handling.

Technology will keep evolving. Automation will keep advancing. But industries are, in the end, built by people.

After eleven years inside one of the world's leading material handling organisations, I set out to create the kind of partner I would have wanted to work with myself. One that understands the industry because it comes from the industry. That is why Evara exists.
